Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Communications Director of the Bawumia Campaign, has argued that the arrest of the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abronye DC, is a clear political witch hunt.
Miracles was speaking on JoyNews’s Newsfile programme on Saturday, September 13, .
“The President cannot create multiple forms of Kevin Tailor, nurture them, benefit from them and when the times come to harvest them, you start to complain,” he asserted, insisting that several incidents demonstrate a pattern of partisan targeting rather than genuine law enforcement.
He urged viewers to see the case as part of a broader struggle for fair treatment of political actors.
Abronye was arrested by the Ghana Police Service on Monday, September 8.
He has since been remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for one week to allow for further investigations.
The development has intensified discussions about press freedoms, political speech, and the proper limits of public commentary in a highly polarised political climate.
He faces two charges: publishing false news and offensive conduct likely to disturb the peace.
The charges stem from comments he allegedly made on television, claiming that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) attended National Democratic Congress (NDC) meetings and referring to the current IGP, Tetteh Yohuno, as the “most corrupt” in the country’s history.
Supporters argue that such remarks fall within robust political rhetoric, while critics caution against incendiary language that could destabilise public order.
Abronye is expected to reappear in court on Friday, September 19, 2025. Miracles Aboagye, continuing his critique on Newsfile, warned that the integrity of Ghana’s political discourse depends on the impartial enforcement of the law, rather than selective accountability.
“If we allow political vendetta to masquerade as justice, the citizenry will lose faith in institutions,” he said, urging calm, due process, and a commitment to constitutional rights as the case progresses.
