Former Ghana Boxing Authority president Samir Captan has vowed to reform the sport following his appointment as chairman of the Interim Management Committee.
The nine-member IMC, inaugurated by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has been tasked with restoring professionalism, safety, and credibility to Ghanaian boxing.
Captan will be assisted by legendary boxer Azumah Nelson, alongside professionals from various fields.

He pledged to return the sport to its “glory days,” insisting that the IMC would prioritise structural reforms.
“We have accepted this position to streamline boxing back to its glory days. We are going to implement it strongly, law is law,” Captan said at the inauguration.
The committee’s responsibilities include restructuring the Professional Boxing Association, improving medical and insurance coverage, and enforcing safety standards for athletes.
The recent tragic deaths of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju and Ghana’s Ernest Akushey, popularly known as ‘Bahubali,’ after bouts at the Bukom Boxing Arena, were described as a wake-up call to fix the fundamentals.
