President and Founder of Cherub London Clinics and Products, Rachael E.D. Sey, has cautioned ladies to avoid frequent relaxing of their hair.
She said the practice exposes them to cancer due to the excessive use of hair creams, which are made of chemicals.
The hair specialist, who spoke on Joy Prime’s morning show explained that Africans are known to have coarse hair. This makes them rely on hair-relaxing products to soften their hair.
However, these products affect them, thereby contributing to the loss of hair and other medical conditions such as cancer.
"We’ve been conditioned to believe that our hair is tough. Our hair is beautiful, and it’s one of a kind. There’s nothing like black hair. To be honest, you shouldn’t be relaxing your hair because of the formaldehyde. It can lead to cancer and so many other things. So, I would say avoid relaxing your hair at all costs," she cautioned on Monday.
Instead, she encouraged the use of zero or products with less chemical through an expert’s prescription to enable them grow healthy hair.
Nevertheless, Madam Rachael Sey has recommended that people should seek education on scalp treatment and practice steam treatment to avoid infections.
She encouraged them to heed doctors’ advice about eating healthy in order to gain healthy hair.
"They’re not wrong in saying that. A healthy life is paramount. You should eat healthily, and this will contribute to good hair growth as well."
The founder of Cherub London Clinics and Products further urged the public, especially ladies, to be careful with the kind of products they purchase online.
Hair loss can also be caused by alopecia, a disease that occurs when the immune system attacks hair follicles. According to the hair expert, it is treated based on texture.
