German club Borussia Dortmund has extended a goodwill message to Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following a road accident on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
According to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), members of the Black Stars technical team, including Addo, were involved in a car accident while returning from Tarkwa.
The team had been on an official assignment, observing the Champion of Champions clash between FC Samartex 1996 and Nsoatreman FC at the newly opened TnA Stadium in Tarkwa.
The vehicle, a Land Cruiser with registration number GR 6521-21, carrying Head Coach Otto Addo, Assistant Coach John Paintsil, and Goalkeeper Trainer Fatawu Dauda, narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a pickup truck that veered into its lane, causing some damage to the vehicle.
Upon learning of the incident, Borussia Dortmund took to social media to send their best wishes to Otto Addo and his fellow coaches, wishing them a speedy recovery.
The Ghana FA says Otto Addo and his assistants "are in stable condition" after the accident and they are expected to supervise Ghana's first training session on Monday evening at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars come up against Angola on September 5 before facing Niger four days later in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
