Public Relations Officer for Accra Great Olympics, Saint Osei has indicated that the issues with ticketing for the Mantse derby over the weekend, are no fault of the Dade club.
Accra Great Olympics welcomed Hearts of Oak to the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday evening for the Ga Mantse derby, in a fixture which attracted lots of fans to the Accra Sports stadium.
Despite the government’s capacity limit of 25%, the eager crowd at the stadium of the city capital was enormous.
On two occasions, fans overpowered the inadequate police and stadium security, breaking into the inner perimeter of the stadium as tickets to the game were sold out.
Being the home club, many blamed Olympics for poor organization, but Saint Osei revealed to Joy Sports the club had no control over issuance of tickets.
“The ticket is suppose to come from the FA, we don’t print tickets. We are only given the tickets and make sure they give us some amount that will have to go in line with the 25%,” he explained.
As already indicated, fans breached security lines and broke into the stadium, the situation almost resulting into a stampede, and Mr. Osei explained that similar to the ticket situation, security was not the responsibility of Olympics.
“We don’t actually have that totality in terms of control. If we talk about security deployment, we are not suppose to control that. It is solely in the hands of the police command. If you look at the Osu scoreboard area, where one of the gates got broken, if the security persons had been stationed there, I don’t think those supporters will have had the opportunity.
“I don’t think this should have been laid down on the doorstep of Great Olympics,” he said to Joy Sports.
The game between Olympics ended in a draw, but Hearts have filed a petition to the disciplinary committee of the FA with regards to the Dade club fielding an unqualified player for the fixture.
