Hohoe United Football Club will replace Liberty Professionals in Ghana’s Division One League after they successfully acquired Liberty’s slot in the competition.
On Tuesday, Liberty Professionals confirmed the club’s change of business operation, withdrawing from competing at the top level of Ghana’s football and to now focus on being some sort of an “academy”, developing players from grassroots with no focus on qualifying to the top divisions.
The Ghana Football Association later confirmed Liberty’s place will now be taken by Hohoe United Football Club after the GFA received all incorporated documents of the change of name.
This means Liberty Professionals is now technically known as Hohoe United, and the latter will still bear all liabilities of Liberty Professionals.
The club will compete in Zone 3 of the Division One League, playing their games at the newly constructed 7000-seater Hohoe Stadium.
Spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for the area, the development marks the restoration of one of Hohoe’s traditional clubs, which will now be aiming to secure Premier League qualification.
