Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has slammed club administrators, describing them as “clueless” following recent acts of hooliganism at league match centres.
Week 33 of the Ghana Premier League was marred by violence, particularly during the fixture between Basake Holy Stars and Nations FC at the Ampain AAK II Sports Arena.
Nations FC reported that its chairman, Dr. Kyei, was allegedly assaulted along with club president Mr. Divine Kyei Boadu.
According to the club, “this hostile and violent conduct created an unsafe environment for our players, technical team, and officials,” leading to the eventual abandonment of the match.
“It is quite unfortunate that we continue to have such situations,” Adams told Sporty FM.
“What I have seen and know what we must do is to have proper education of club owners. [They] need serious education even before the fans. [Some] club owners seem not to be up to the task beyond just owning the clubs.
“Some management clearly seem not to understand, they are so clueless about what football is all about."
After nearly 48 hours, the GFA acknowledged the disturbing incidents and confirmed that an investigation is underway.
A victory for Nations FC would have secured their first-ever Premier League title.
