National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Boakye has advised the public to back down calls for the closure of schools.
In his view, asking for a prompt closure due to the few cases of Covid-19 will affect the exit plan of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
He stated that there are measures in place to care for students who may contract the virus while in school.
Speaking to Joy FM, he explained that such a move will stress out the students and their parents.
“When you call for an immediate closure, it will not fit into the exit plan. The exit pla is that they will go home after they write their exams.
"Government and the ministry will put in place an exit plan, the same way they had an entry plan,” he clarified.
Nana noted that the all schools were disinfected before the arrival of students, hence, the first cases recorded on these campuses were from their communities.
“Because majority of second years are not there, they have enough space to observe ocial distance protocols. They even have an isolation centre.”
“The call by from some people especially NDC that schools must be closed down is quite unfortunate and not backed by data” he said.
He advised parents and guardians not to act on panic as most of the sick students are asymptomatic.
“Why would you want to release 580,502 to our various communities where we are still managing the situation. This is unthinkable,” he stated.
