Kwesi Nyantakyi has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to hire a psychologist for the Black Stars team to address underlying psychological issues affecting their performance.
The Black Stars' recent struggles, including failing to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years, have raised concerns among Ghanaians.
Otto Addo's team finished bottom in their AFCON qualifying group, which included Niger, Sudan, and Angola, which resulted in the masses calling for his immediate sacking.
Nyantakyi attributed the team's poor performance to psychological problems within the technical team. He cited an incident where Otto Addo invaded the pitch following Ghana's goal against Niger in Accra.
"I think that apart from the players, Otto Addo and the technical team needs a psychologist," Nyantakyi told Asempa FM. "The day we played against Niger in Accra, Otto Addo stormed the pitch after we scored a consolation goal. I saw that there is a psychological problem there. What triggered him to storm the pitch is a psychological problem."
With the World Cup qualifiers approaching, Ghana will face Chad and Madagascar in March. Nyantakyi's suggestion to hire a psychologist could be a pivotal move towards addressing the team's psychological issues and improving their performance on the field of play.
