The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the alleged abduction of Sylvia Patience Baah, the Emirates Airlines Airport Manager in Accra, by operatives of the National Security Secretariat and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
The NDC, in a statement signed by its National Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, expressed outrage at the reported incident, describing it as a glaring abuse of power and a stain on Ghana’s democratic credentials.
According to the statement, Madam Baah was abducted at the entrance to her residence on November 21, 2024, blindfolded, handcuffed, and forcibly taken away in an unmarked vehicle by individuals believed to be linked to state security agencies.
The statement alleged that the victim endured over two hours of being driven to an unknown location, where she was detained for nearly 24 hours, subjected to threats, and later abandoned in a bush near Ashaiman.
The NDC linked the abduction to an altercation involving Madam Baah and three individuals.
The party characterized the incident as retribution for the victim’s professional actions, which reportedly displeased these individuals and other influential figures within the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.
The NDC expressed concern over what it described as a pattern of state-sponsored terrorism and impunity under the current government, stating that such actions have eroded public trust in law enforcement and endangered the safety of citizens.
“This incident, which has outraged many Ghanaians, has once again highlighted the abuse and misuse of power under the lawless Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government,” the statement read.
The NDC called on the Inspector-General of Police to urgently investigate the incident and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice.
The party demanded transparent and impartial investigations, emphasizing the need for swift action to deter future abuses.
The statement concluded by urging Ghanaians to vote for change in the upcoming election, describing it as an opportunity to restore social justice, the rule of law, and the integrity of state institutions.
“This change will restore social justice and the rule of law in Ghana. Above all, the NDC will work to restore the trust of Ghanaians in our law enforcement agencies and guarantee the safety and security of all Ghanaians,” the party assured.
The NDC pledged that under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, a renewed commitment to justice, fairness, and accountability would guide the nation towards a safer and more equitable future.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Security has refuted claims of the abduction of Sylvia Baah by officers of the Ministry and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
