The Campaign Manager for flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong has raised issues of voter inducement in the ongoing New Patriotic Party’s Super Delegates Conference.
According to Mr. Kwame Owusu, some delegates were camped at a hotel in Kumasi.
He however refused to reveal the name of the aspirant who may have camped the said delegates.
“I am saying that with certainty. NODA Hotel is owned by a gentleman from my own village, Asotwi. People were camped there. I saw people camped. The name was not written Kennedy Agyapong or whatever but whoever did it, whether it’s Ken or whoever, it’s just wrong,” he told JoyNews.
Mr. Owusu said the country has reached a stage where its people must “move with civility.”
The campaign manager insists his camp is not worried about inducement as he believes it is a “normal process.”
But, by the advent of technology and the emphasis on digitalization, people should not be camped at a particular place to be given information, especially when elections are due, he added.
Reacting to the allegations, the Director of Communications for the NPP, Richard Ahiagbah said the issue raised has not been backed by evidence.
“He didn’t give us anything beyond the assertion that he saw people going in there and so people going in there are being camped. But I don’t think that that is sufficient basis for any investigation to be commenced.”
He indicated that contrary to Mr. Owusu’s observation, other delegates he interacted with virtually were in their respective homes.
He further expressed that people are at liberty to sleep in hotels for the sake of comfort.
The NPP Super Delegates Conference is currently underway where 956 delegates are expected to cast their votes to select top five candidates.
This will be followed by another final internal election later this year to select a flagbearer for the party.
