A team from the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) in the Oti Region has intercepted a vehicle carrying a large cache of ammunition and a locally manufactured firearm, leading to the arrest of two suspects in Dambai.
According to intelligence gathered by Adom News, the RPID, the operation took place on Sunday, February 8, 2025, following intelligence received by the unit.
The team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Maxwell Osafo Adamu, intercepted a Hyundai Kia Rhino truck with registration number GS-4677-17 at about 1530 hours.

The statement said the vehicle was initially believed to be transporting building materials.
However, a detailed search reportedly uncovered a locally manufactured single-barrel short gun and 21 boxes containing 525 rounds of Lion AAA and BB ammunition.
The suspects were identified as Abubakari Salam Atta, 35, and Kabuja Kwadwo Taademe, 19. Police said the two claimed they had been hired by a person identified as Kabuja Ntesi to transport the items.

In a further development, the statement indicated that the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with GHC50,000 in exchange for their release.
The officers refused the offer and proceeded with the arrest.
Police said the suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations as efforts continue to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the consignment.
The RPID credited the successful interception to coordinated work between the intelligence team led by ASP Adamu and the Regional Crime Office.
Authorities have not disclosed the intended destination of the ammunition and firearm, but emphasized that investigations remain ongoing.
