A Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has dismissed claims that the party skewed its Super Delegates Conference held last month in favour of presidential candidate over the others.
Speaking on JoyNews' PM Express, he stated that the former presidential aspirant, Alan Kyerematen, who made the claims was “very much aware” of the composition of the delegates ahead of the conference.
Mr Mohammed told the host, Blessed Sogah, that no delegate was chosen deliberately to bend the election results in favour of one candidate, adding the party respected its constitution.
“Article 13 1.9 of the party's constitution describes the composition of the delegates to the super delegates conference. It's predetermined…and this is very clear, nobody had skewed any delegates conference to an individual,” the Deputy General Secretary said.
Alan Kyerematen on Tuesday evening announced his withdrawal from the NPP’s flagbearer race citing several reasons.
He cited intimidation, violence against a member of his campaign team and claimed that the party strategically organised the super delegates conference to favour one candidate over the others as some of the reasons for his decision.
Mr Kyerematen stated that pronouncements made by some leading members of the party before and after the elections lend weight to his observations.

“After having carefully analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant.”
“The level of intimidation of varying intensity, directly and indirectly unleashed on a significant number of Delegates at various Voting Centers across the sixteen regions, is unprecedented in the history of our Party,” parts of the statement read.
But addressing those concerns, the party’s Deputy General Secretary stated that regarding the issue of violence, the party is not sitting idle.
The isssue, he said, has been referred to the disciplinary committee for further investigations and action.
“The General Secretary of the party took it upon himself to petition the committee responsible to look at this matter - that is the disciplinary committee - and mentioned names, and cited some pockets of violence that happened in some centres that have been brought to his attention.”
“Their team also petitioned the Election Committee, and the Committee has captured a portion the General Secretary did not have oversight over to petition and they have referred to the disciplinary committee,” Mr Mohammed added.
