Former Ghana defender John Painstil has questioned the recently held 'Save Ghana Football' demonstration saying it lacked purpose.
Last week, scores of football fans took to the streets of Accra to protest against the state of the country's football following recent happenings in the sport. This follows the Black Stars poor showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast where Ghana failed to make it out of the group.
In their quest for things to be fixed, the conveners of the demonstration petitioned Parliament after marching on the streets.
However, Paintsil, who played for the national team in a period spanning over a decade, speaking on UTV, said the protest lacked purpose.
"I need to know exactly their purpose [for the demonstration]," he said.
"If we say Ghana Football then we are not talking the national team. The national team comes once in six months or four months. Even when we talk about the Black Stars, they just returned from the World Cup - the big game against Nigeria; they went there and qualified us.
According to him, the national team is still in a rebuilding process and will take time to get them at their best.
"They need to understand the national team is still being rebuilt. The people who came for the AFCON are new faces," he added.
