Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, has called for calm following reports that the Black Queens are threatening to boycott their second-leg clash against Egypt in the 2025 WAFCON qualifiers over unpaid bonuses and per diems.
The Black Queens earned a commanding 3-0 win over Egypt in the first leg in Ismailia, giving them a strong advantage heading into the return fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
However, the team has reportedly decided to withdraw from the match in protest against what they describe as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Sports Ministry’s lukewarm approach to fulfilling promises made after they finished third at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the Sports Minister acknowledged the delay in payments and assured that processes are underway to address the situation affecting both the Black Queens and the Black Satellites, Ghana’s U-20 men’s national team.
“In the case of the U-20, their per diems have not been paid,” he said.
“We have not paid them for the AFCON they participated in Egypt, but all is in process. Once the Finance Ministry gives the release letter and the Controller and Accountant General credits the account, we will honour all payments, including those of the Black Queens.”
Adams further appealed to the players and the public to remain patient as the Ministry works to resolve the issue.
“We are pleading with them. This is our country, Ghana, and we will honour what is due to them,” he added.
