Asante Kotoko’s impressive 11-match unbeaten run in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign was halted on Wednesday following a 2–1 loss to Basake Holy Stars in their outstanding fixture at the AAK 11 Arena.
The hosts struck first through Richard Somiah, whose composed finish lifted the atmosphere and put Kotoko on the back foot. The Porcupine Warriors responded promptly, with Kwame Poku netting the equaliser to restore momentum and set up a gripping second half.
With both sides pushing for a decisive breakthrough, the match appeared to be heading for a stalemate until Basake Holy Stars delivered at the death. In the opening minute of stoppage time, Prince Tweneboah powered home the winner, sparking jubilant scenes and sealing a memorable result for the home side.
The defeat serves as a blow to Kotoko’s early-season charge, but they will have little time to dwell on the setback. The Kumasi giants return to action on Sunday when they host Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium, seeking an immediate response as the title race intensifies.
