Ghana defender Alexander Djiku has come out to apologise to Ghanaians following the team's exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Stars suffered a third consecutive group-stage exit in the last three years with the latest being the collapse in Ivory Coast.
Ghana's hopes of advancing to the knockout round despite finishing second in Group B were dashed on Tuesday evening following Cameroon's late win over Gambia, officially knocking them out.
Djiku has been involved in the last three major tournaments with the Black Stars and scored one of Ghana's five goals at the tournament.
Following the confirmation of Ghana's exit, the Fenerbahce central defender shared a post on social media as he rendered an apology to Ghanaians while also commending them for the support the team received.
"Words will certainly not be enough to erase the disillusionment," he wrote on his social media pages.
