The much-awaited construction of the National Cathedral has finally taken off.
President Nana Akufo-Addo did the honours by laying the foundation stone at the construction site at Ridge in Accra.
He reiterated the importance of building the monumental building.
The President said God has protected Ghana from civil wars and many disease outbreaks and there is the need to show appreciation for that.
He also recounted his resolve to superintend the construction of a house dedicated to God if the wins the 2016 elections.
President Akufo-Addo said it is an “act of thanksgiving to the Almighty…”
He said the law is also on the side of those in favour of building the Cathedral, arguing “the Supreme Court of the Republic in unanimously rejecting recently the challenge of the constitutionality the Cathedral project laid particular emphasis on this point.”
The Archbishop and General Overseer of the Action Chapel International Ministry, Nicholas Duncan-Williams who was at the groundbreaking ceremony, lauded the project.
He also dismissed the criticisms against the construction, adding that posterity should be the judge of whether the edifice is necessary or not.

Don't let some loud mouth Twitter gang plus some alleged sensible people fool you. If they are against it they should also contribute towards what is important to them.
We will build it to the glory of GOD!
Encouraging the trustees, he said, “let us not allow opposition, controversy, misrepresentation, criticism to in any way, discourage us, and let our hand be strengthened.”
