Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stay out of the 2028 general elections, warning that the party is not in a strong position to mount a credible challenge and risks suffering a decisive defeat.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Nana Yaa Jantuah said the opposition party is still grappling with the aftermath of its loss in the 2024 elections, with internal challenges continuing to weaken its focus and organisational strength.
According to her, the most strategic option available to the NPP at this stage is to concentrate on rebuilding its structures rather than pursuing the presidency.
“The biggest opposition party in Ghana should not be contesting the next elections. The shock from the 2024 defeat is still lingering, and it is affecting their ability to regroup. They should rather focus on rebuilding and possibly contest parliamentary seats,” she said.
Nana Yaa Jantuah contrasted the NPP’s current state with what she described as improving economic conditions under President John Dramani Mahama.
She pointed to falling fuel prices as an indicator of progress, citing her personal experience of purchasing fuel for as little as GH¢200.
She further praised President Mahama’s leadership, noting that he has received the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award in West Africa, which she said reflects growing regional recognition of his performance.
“With the improvements we are seeing and the recognition President Mahama is receiving, it will be very difficult for the NPP to succeed in 2028, especially when many Ghanaians still see the party as divided and unsettled,” she added.
