Works and Housing Minister Samuel Atta Akyea says former government officials in the NDC government will soon be hauled before court for allegedly criminally misappropriating funds meant for the Saglemi housing project.
He says despite the state paying more than 90% of the contract sum, only 1,000 housing units have been built instead of 5,000.
Responding to questions on the floor of parliament, he said the case will soon be sent to the Attorney General for prosecution after an audit by the Institute of Surveyors.
“The Ghana Institute of Surveyors is engaged in a value for money audit. The findings will indicate the extent of embezzlement of state resources,” he explained.
Mr. Atta Kyea hinted that all those who will be indicted will be dragged before the court.
He added that civil action will be used to recover the monies misappropriated by the individuals found culpable.
He stated that the audit will also provide a projection on how much is needed to complete the 5,000 housing units at Saglemi.
“In accordance with article 35(7) of the constitution, the Akufo Addo government pledges to complete the botched housing project. While we work to surmount this challenge, we will communicate later when my ministry will complete the housing unit,” he posited.
