Kwasi Kwarteng, the spokesperson for the campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has said his candidate is the only presidential hopeful with the capacity to address Ghana’s fundamental and complex national challenges.
Speaking on the JoyNews Desk on Thursday, barely 78 hours ahead of the New Patriotic Party primaries to elect a flagbearer on 31 January, Mr Kwarteng argued that Mr Agyapong’s unique blend of political and business experience sets him apart from the other contenders.
He explained that Mr Agyapong has the expertise to tackle Ghana’s basic socio-economic problems while driving job creation, industrialisation and agricultural development.
"At the end of the day, when you do your comparative analysis, you will realise that at a time like this, the person that our country needs to fix the highest and the most basic problems that confront us as a country, problems such as corruption.... (is Kennedy Agyapong)."
"At a time like this, where enforcement of basic laws, like sanitation laws and road safety laws, is concerned, we are unable to fight galamsey, you cannot convince me, Kwasi Kwarteng, sitting here, that we need a tie and suit president, no. "We need the Kennedy Agyapong style of leader; we need somebody who can look into your face and tell you that this is wrong, if you do this, you are fired. if you do not come to work at 8 am, you are fired. That is the kind of leader we need," he added.
According to Mr Kwarteng, these qualities position Mr Agyapong as the most capable candidate to lead Ghana through its current challenges and deliver meaningful transformation.
He said the team is very optimistic about winning the flagbearership on Sunday. He added that Mr Agyapong has concluded his nationwide tour and is patiently awaiting the outcome of the election.
Kwasi Kwarten also argued that Mr Agyapong is the only aspirant with a clear and consistent message. According to him, among the five contenders, only Mr Agyapong has articulated a coherent and compelling message to party delegates.
