The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, on Saturday, August 10, led a delegation of the party’s Ashanti Regional executives to commiserate with the families of 16 members of the Saviour Church of Ghana at Obogu in the Asante Akyem South Municipality.
The victims tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Monday, 28 July, while returning from the church’s annual gathering.
During the visit, the NDC leadership donated GH₵10,000 to the Saviour Church of Ghana and GH₵50,000 to the bereaved families in support of their needs during this difficult period.

Four other church members remain in hospital receiving treatment, with church leaders reporting that they are responding well. The accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. when a vehicle transporting the congregants collided with a fuel tanker travelling from the opposite direction.
The incident has left the Obogu community and the Saviour Church in deep shock, with many families mourning multiple losses.
Addressing the grieving community at the church’s Obogu branch, Mr Nketiah urged the bereaved to remain steadfast and hold on to their faith.

“The news of this tragedy reached us through the party’s liaison officer with the church. We felt compelled to be here today to console the families and offer words of encouragement,” he said.
He added: “The pain is unbearable, especially for those who have lost two or three children.”
