Police have arrested the suspect who went into hiding after the death of a landlady at Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region.
The suspect, identified as Paa Kwesi, is the grandson of a tenant and was allegedly involved in an assault that led to the death of the landlady, Madam Charlotte.
He had fled the scene following the incident and remained in hiding until police intelligence led officers to his hideout, where he was arrested.
Police say the suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
He has, however, maintained that the incident was an accident.
The case stems from an incident in which Madam Charlotte reportedly confronted a tenant after discovering human waste wrapped in a polythene bag dumped in front of her room in their shared compound.
The tenant allegedly explained that she had suffered a stomach upset and could not reach a public toilet in time.
Although the initial confrontation reportedly ended without violence, the situation later escalated when the tenant accused the landlady of discussing the matter with others in the community.
The tenant is said to have called her grandson, Paa Kwesi, to the house.
On arrival, the suspect allegedly assaulted Madam Charlotte with a belt. The landlady’s condition reportedly worsened shortly after the incident due to complications linked to high blood pressure.
She was rushed to the Nyakrom Health Centre and later referred to another hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body has since been deposited at the Agona Swedru Mortuary for autopsy.
