President John Dramani Mahama has shared a lighthearted moment from his past, about how he first reacted to the enthronement of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Asantehene at the Jubilee House on Monday, June 2, President Mahama reflected on the moment he heard that Nana Osei Tutu II had been enstooled as the new Otumfuo, following the passing of Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.
"When I became a minister, and they were enstooling the next Otumfuo after Opoku Ware died, they enstooled Nana Osei Tutu II. I said, ‘But this is Aduhene's boy, he hails from Sefwi. Is it possible for someone from Sefwi to become the Asantehene?” President Mahama recounted with a smile.
According to President Mahama, the revelation puzzled him until Otumfuo later explained the lineage and connection that made his enstoolment possible.
“Then Nana told me a story, and it fitted the jigsaw puzzle together. Apparently, his uncle had sent him to the Aduhene’s palace to be groomed as a king,” President Mahama added.
